Say What?! Jon Bon Jovi Just Launched His First Wine

The list of celebrity winemakers just got a name longer. Jon Bon Jovi, one of the most iconic rock stars ever (I’m biased, but it’s true) has launched a premium rosé wine brand. Apparently, rosé is a staple in the Bongiovi Hamptons household. They drink it all day everyday, and Jon himself calls it “pink juice”. But what does this rockstar know about wine? Well, aside from it being the only alcohol he drinks… nothing. Which is why he teamed up with renowned French winemaker Gérard Bertrand to create Diving into Hampton Water. But the real minds behind this brand are Jon Bon Jovi’s 23 year-old son, Jesse Bongiovi, and his roommate, Ali Thomas.


According to Jesse, the idea came to them one night a couple of years ago when they were enjoying a bottle of rosé with Jon in the Hamptons. The roommates dubbed the wine “Hampton Water”, and Bon Jovi joked about how that would be “a funny name for a rosé.” And that joke is how Jesse and Ali started creating the concept for their own “Hampton Water”. They designed the label featuring a woman diving into a pink colored pool and pitched the business plan to Bon Jovi, who loved it. From there, they teamed up with French winemaker Bertrand and traveled back and forth between New York and the South of France to create their premium rosé.


Even though Bon Jovi has admitted to being committed to this new brand “like it’s [his] only job”, he refuses to have his name slapped onto the wine labels. “This isn’t a celebrity vanity project,” he says in an interview with Wine Enthusiast, since he is just as involved in it as his son and Gérard. In fact, the rockstar insisted that he considers himself working for his son in this business.


But what’s so special about this celebrity rosé, you ask?

Hampton Water is made using the expensive blend of grenache, cinsault, mourvèdre, and syrah aged in French oak. Bon Jovi and his son took a hands-on approach to creating this wine, stepping into Bertrand’s lab and tasting countless blends before deciding on the one. Their aim was to create a premium rosé that was drinkable from early in the day until late at night, a wine that makes people happy, a wine that reminds them of the posh lifestyle of the Hamptons, and most importantly, a wine that’s for everyone. And it sells at only $ 25!
